I came to Ireland from Slovakia in 2005 for a short term contract to repair old houses. Although my original profession was electrician, I always worked as a self-employed builder. At the time I lived in a shared house in Dublin and that is where I met Jirka. After the job failed a friend offered me a kitchen porter job in a restaurant in Dublin he worked in and for the sake of experience and learning English I took it. It was there my passion for cooking emerged after a chance was given to me in the kitchen to improve and grow... I finally found myself. I spent a few years around Midlands after that, working as a chef, building my skills.

In 2010 my friend Betty encouraged me to open a coffee shop available for rent in a small town called Loughrea. At that time I was already fed up with the impersonal hotel-cooking for masses and really loved the idea to give it a try. On the other hand I realised I could not do it on my own. And then Jirka called out of nowhere with exactly the support I needed.

With the support of Jirka, our mutual friend Keong and our closest friends, Taste Matters was born.

I was working and studying college in Prague, Czech Republic, when I went to Ireland in 2005. It was meant to be a short break to gain experience and improve my English. As it turned out I never came back. I fell in love with Ireland and I found a good job in a bank. I met Mike in a house we shared and we became friends.

Two years later I Ieft to Singapore to work for the same bank for over 3 years, until I finally realised the banking career was not for me. It was at that time I heard Mike was considering opening an eatery in a small town in the west of Ireland. It seemed to me like a perfect timing. I decided to pursue my life-long dream of having a restaurant and so I contacted Mike, who at that time was a second chef in a busy hotel. It was all agreed in a couple of days and with help and support of my girlfriend and a good friend Keong we opened Taste Matters in Loughrea in November 2010 .
